A necessity judging by your puncture 0*\ 0*\

RP - about Tok --- see explanation ;-)
Flutterby -- It was great great fun . Certainly was the best overseas trip we ever did . \O
Pooky - yeahh ... but we take it as it comes , as you will see again :O^

Right , ready for more ? But , before continuing with our journey , lets look at another map , and specifically the area from Tok , to Glenallen, Anchorage , to Homer . In other words , South Central Alaska .

Image

From Chicken , we continued to Tok , pronounced toke . During the 1940’s and the building of the Alaska Highway , this was a major supply camp , and one story is that the place was named after a Husky dog named Tok , which belonged to one of the road engineers . Another version is that it was named after the nearby Tokai River , and some say it was named Tokyo camp , and later shortened to Tok .
Tok is the sled-dog capital of Alaska , and about 100 or so miles from Fairbanks , where the Alaska highway ends . At this point , we decided that we there are more interesting places to see than Fairbanks , and therefore diverted off onto the Glenn Highway , to Anchorage , and further on to Homer . I will tell a little more about Homer late

You are correct Lisbeth . \O I would have loved to have gone here , but the road from Fairbanks to Onehorse / Prudhoe bay , only opens mid June or so :-( .
Nan ,- Kodiak was another place on our wish-list , but unfortunately we had to consider time available :O^
And we considered very hard flying visits to Barrow and Nome , .......
There is so much to do and see , and experience , in Alaska 0*\ . :O^

Having not been to anywhere that you have so far, but wishing I had, I can vouch that Kodiak is a not to be missed for next time. Thoroughly enjoying your TT here (apart from those very brave hunters. They must have been absolute heroes to get so close to bears, even with a gun. We took cameras for protection - seemed to work fine for us. -O- ).

Looking forward to reading more and seeing some more photos from you.

P.S. The Jay is a Steller's - a far better bird than plain old Blue Jay and I never got to see one as I was too far North of their range so I'm a tad jealous of your sighting.
