Right , ready for more ? But , before continuing with our journey , lets look at another map , and specifically the area from Tok , to Glenallen, Anchorage , to Homer . In other words , South Central Alaska .
From Chicken , we continued to Tok , pronounced toke . During the 1940’s and the building of the Alaska Highway , this was a major supply camp , and one story is that the place was named after a Husky dog named Tok , which belonged to one of the road engineers . Another version is that it was named after the nearby Tokai River , and some say it was named Tokyo camp , and later shortened to Tok .
Tok is the sled-dog capital of Alaska , and about 100 or so miles from Fairbanks , where the Alaska highway ends . At this point , we decided that we there are more interesting places to see than Fairbanks , and therefore diverted off onto the Glenn Highway , to Anchorage , and further on to Homer . I will tell a little more about Homer late
