I was filled with exitement knowing that this was my first ever trip totally on my own, in a park.

Veld fires have done their bit once again in SBR .

I started gathering proof that there is game in the park

And every so now and then found these stones packed in heaps.
Was told that is was some indication for the hiking trail.

There are many kiepersol in the park.

This guy ran across the road in front of me, but grabbing for the camera (I was alone) I missed that shot, yet it turn round and greet me.
I sat watching it while it dissappeared over the ‘rantjie’.

A little further I saw the Eland. What a magnificent creature.
Much at ease, it was grazing on the new grass that had sprouted after the fires.
I was feeling like a spoilt kid… these sightings were for me, to remind me that all though I’m on my own, I’m not alone. Awesome.
Should I be this spoilt during my trip in Kruger during December, it would be the ultimate holiday

Nature has a way of protecting itself. The smaller trees have more thorns, for protection and in order for them to have a chance to grow strong.
Are we as humans this way too? As we grow older, we have less thorns and readily share all our goodness to who wants to feed from it?
While taking this picture, there was a squirrel roaming around for food, yet it is not visible on the pic. It blended in so good with the stones, and the only reason I saw it, was because it moved.

The aloe growth in SBR

I arrived at the picnic spot much too early. After more than 1.1/2 hours, the thought crossed my mind that the venue was moved and I could not be informed due to no signal.
I decided I was here to enjoy the day and took stock of my surroundings. I had neighbours that might want to help, yet I was determined to make a braai fire on my own.
Thinking and re-thinking the procedure as I had watched men start a fire, I put all these thoughts into order numbering them 1 to 5.
With as much visible confidence possible , I started by fetching the charcoal and blitz from the car. Very, very casually dropped the bag next to the braai (as I have seen matcho men do) and packed out only SOME of the blitz. Men normally laugh at guys using the WHOLE box or even at men using a hairdryer or fan.
At a good pace, the coal pieces were piled up, one at a time, until there was a nice little heap. And then… I felt it. Nature’s fan was picking up, a gentle breeze was forming, and this felt like a nudge, saying : OK, that’s good, now light it. There was slight shake in my hand as I lit it….and it started burning.
I stood to one side and watched with tears in my eyes. I have overcome a fear!!! I CAN make a braai fire, even though it has taken years to prove to myself.

More charcoal was added by the men when they arrived and MY little fire did for all the braaiing for day. That felt so good.
Now for some pic’s of the meet….. enjoy.
