Sadly early this morning a hippo was hit and killed on the H4-1 near Nkuhlu.
I'm not confirming that this was speeding, but I'd like to use this post to remind you to please drive slowly and carefully while in our game parks.

Re: Hippo killed by car in Kruger
Hmmm...
A car won't do that without leaving a heck of a lot of spare parts lying around. Maybe it was put down after an accident?
Could be similar to the dead hippo reported a month or so ago?
Very speculative, this!

Re: Hippo killed by car in Kruger
The diesel trucks and army trucks drive at a very alarming speed, they whooshed past me a few times during my Kruger trip
Yes, I do agree with RP that if it was a normal car or even a bakkie there would have been a wrecked car next to it but if a huge truck hit it then this would be possible...

Why would a paocher kill an animal on a road when he has a good chance of being caught?
Rather wait a few mins for the hippo to move into the bush and kill it then.
And if it was hit by a vehicle, even a lory, would there not be evidence?
A broken headlight even?

Re: Hippo killed by car in Kruger
Maybe it was badly injured in a fight, and was moving away from the water, and collapsed on the road?
A photo of the actualy injury might have shed more light on what actually happened.
