Hi there,
I am a true novice when it comes to birding, but have begun creating a record of birds seen in my area. I recorded a few owl calls and just cant seem to identify with absolute certainty and am hoping someone can help me please!
The video clip is of what i think is a Marsh Owl judging by the call - The contradiction comes in that images on the internet show a Marsh Owl to have very dark eyes but this, as you can see, has yellow eyes,..
Next recording is of an owl i saw at dusk - this one is titled African Grass Owl (I mentioned Marsh Owl in the clip by mistake) as it matches up with other recordings.
The other clip is of something that we hear almost every night and is similar to the Grass Owl but the tone is much higher!
Can anyone please confirm these three recordings for me?
Lastly, I have several recordings of various birds which i would like to identify. Is it fine for me to post new topics for each?
Looking forward to solving this!

Hi SS and welcome to the forum. I am not sure that any of our members are much into owl calls, but we will try our best and have a look here: https://www.google.com/search?q=South+A ... nt=gws-wiz

Shongweni!
What an interesting yet tricky subject!
Let's see what comes up, and I'm sure you can post the others, we can just rearrange them!

Ok our one expert, Duncan Butchart, has passed away recently unfortunately.
Garth says he cannot recognise the calls, although the last video is a spotted eagle owl.
One more expert to go!
