Same was already completely wet after a couple of attempts to catch a fish and after same was successful same took off and flew unfortunately far too soon away.

Image

One of the pied kingfishers was also successful in catching another fish but same obviously bit off more than same can chew as the fish was far too large to be swallowed easily and it took extreme long until same had been swallowed

Image

Image

In the distance in some dense bushes we noticed some red billed fire finches but could not capture one successfully but to our delight Mrs. paradise flycatcher paid a visit also a bit far away but at least she allowed us to take a couple of shots.

Image

The fish eagle was also hanging around in the distance overlooking from a treetop the lake and even farer away Timon noticed also a broad billed roller which is indeed a rare visitor in the South of the park so this picture had only be taken as proof.

Image

Finally after we spent already over an hour in the hide also the water dikkop could now clearly be seen and came out of its hideout from under a bush.

Image

Meanwhile it got already late and we now drove back to camp in order to check in – Gladly for us the main run onto the reception had ebbed away and so the check in went extreme smooth and fast – We were again glad that we again could stay in the Lion Cottage as during most of our previous stays here and so we soon moved in and stayed a while on the verandah to enjoy the view.

Although it was late afternoon we could not quit at least a short afternoon drive and soon we were into the direction of the low water bridges over the Sabie and Sand river and here we were entertained by a large group of baboons

Image

Image

who were hanging around there and entertained us a lot

Image

as you could observe their furious,

Image

gentle - the gentle side obviously did not exist that day

Image

or even playful side and after we stayed with them we continued our drive

Image

only to stop for a tawny eagle in a tree.

Close to the causeway also a bushbuck was grazing,

Image

a giant kingfisher landed extreme close

Image

Image

and so did the pied kingfisher as well.

Image

Then we even had time to drive as well the Marula loop but unfortunately nothing was hanging around or could be found on the roads there and so we returned again to the low water causeway where we soon took more shots from the giant kingfisher

Image

and a green backed heron on one of the many sandy islands.

Image

Image

A couple of hamerkops were hanging around as well

Image

they occurred either as couple or

Image

stayed single.

Image

We stayed as long as possible on the Sabie causeway as there is always something to be seen and gladly not many cars wanted to pass as well so we even could take more shots from the giant kingfisher

Image

to be continued…
