Sorry but it is me again. Once I am on a roll it is difficult to stop me.
During July 2005, as part of holiday to the UK, we went to Italy to visit Kens , at that time, girlfriends parents. Part of the visit included a trip on the Bernina Express a train trip from Torino to St Moritz. This is the only train that goes over the Alps and not through them. Here is just a taste of what we saw through the trains window which were were huge glass windows going right up to the centre of the roof. This train climbs 1827m in 38.4km, without the use of rack rails, from Tirano 429m to Ozpizio Bernina the highest point at 2256m.
I scanned this picture from the trains brochure just to give you an idea of the train.
At the highest point.
Looking across the lake at St Moritz which in winter is iced over so thick that have horse racing on it.
I am sorry but I just could not help taking a pic of this bus outside our hotel in ST Moritz, as I was quite concerned as to its destination. Mods please remove if deemed necessary.
A photo cannot do justice to the actual scenery one sees.
I must mention that this train trip is listed as one of the top ten train trips in the world. Another listed one was the trip along the Dawlish sea wall which I showed a few pics in my earlier UK TT and another being our very own but now non existent Outeniqua Tjoe Choo.
