It sure was young D.
Sat 29 Sept 2012.
We awoke early and began the tedium of packing up to leave. The last night shift symphony had been appreciated and it was changing shifts again. I always wake up on the last day in Kruger with a profound sense of melancholy. A great sadness that I will be leaving paradise for an indefinite amount of time and returning to the concrete jungle. So called civilization.
However, it was the longest I had ever stayed in one camp, and we were all Krugered out so to speak. We had pretty much seen everything we wanted to see except for the dogs and the other spotted cat. Maybe next time.
We packed our lodgings, hooked up the trailer and went for a shower. It wasn't all that early anymore by the time we left camp saying farewell to Berg en Dal. The plan was to exit at Phabeni gate after a drive up the H3 and then to Pretorius Kop on The H1 before going up the S3.
On the road out of B & D, we came across these Zebbies.
They looked somehow different today as though they felt my sadness. Lenny the spotty one was bunking and not at his post so we didn't get to see that cat. Maybe being a Saturday, he had the day off.
Afsaal was very busy and the stop there was as quick as we could make it. Still a long way to go.
The wind was pumping something fierce.
At transport dam we looked for the Hyena den but they also apparently had been given time off for good behavior.
We did see some waterbuck for the first time this trip and this egret was proud of his hairdo. No amount of wind was going to ruffle his feathers.
This tiny baby was just too cute for words.
