Great birds, love the ball-like lark =O:

The mean looking dragon is Paragomphus genei, the Common Hooktail.

That 'lil croc is a cutie, as are the dwarf mongoose youngsters, but my favorites are, of course, the insects. :ty:

Your variety of birds is always informative for me, as I'm not very knowledgeable in that area. ^Q^

The kudu was extreme impressive ^Q^ We had hot days but it was affordable for us North European - During the day around 30 degrees which is indeed bearable for Kruger in summer

At least we noticed the jackals as the rest of our drive on the S100 that day was extreme quiet but the vegetation was far too thick and the grass far too high \O

The rest of our drive back to camp via the S100 was once again extreme quiet and we only stopped there for a couple of giraffes

Image

before we took a break from driving in camp on our verandah whilst observing the birdlife in the nearby trees of our bungalow and today we had luck as besides the “normal” feathered camp visitors in form of woodland kingfishers, glossy starlings, doves and hornbills the woodhoopoes paid a visit and we simply had to sat in our chairs watch and photograph them.

Image

Image

Luckily there were so many of them so we always had the possibility in watching at least one of them

Image

so it never got boring

Image

and on top we also noticed an agama on a root of a tree

Image

and the woodpecker could not be ignored as well.

Image

As we returned early back to camp from our morning drive we decided to do a longer afternoon drive and left already around 15.00 o’clock the camp as we wanted to drive North in order to return via the S127 and S40 back to camp. Soon we stopped for vultures,

a smaller herd of elephants

and more zebras

but then it got quiet again until we stopped as a car stood beside the road and they told us about a lion who laid flat on the ground and from time to time came up and although we waited a while we never saw anything from same and so we continued to simply enjoy a bit more time at Girivana and there for sure the many impalas.

Image

Although we spent a reasonable time there nothing else was willing to occur so finally we slowly drove back to camp whilst stopping for magpie shrikes

Image

who were more than willing to pose for a picture even in the lovely evening sunlight.

Image

We even discovered a leopard tortoise

Image

and could catch a really fast lizard whilst same was crossing the road rapidly.

Image

Back in camp we wanted to fill up and although we made it still in time back the filing station was already closed and everything looked spick and span and so we decided to come back early the next morning and instead enjoyed another nice braai and the rest of the evening on our verandah.

Saturday, 22. February 2021 – Satara

Driven Roads: H1-4 – H7 – S106 – H7 – S36 – S126 – H1-3 – H6 – S41 – S100 – H1-4

As we were running out of Diesel we definitely had to fill up but when we arrived as first car at the filing station same was still closed – strange! First I thought it might had something to do with the curfew but as we noticed in the other camps we so far stayed in that the filing stations opened with camp opening time and were still open until gate closing time the filing station attendant obviously overslept.

We waited now already for 15 minutes and meanwhile also two other cars waited with us and one car already left the filing station so we decided to drive to Orpen and fill up there and what to stay it was once again extreme quiet until we passed the turn off to the S39 and suddenly I shouted “lions” to Timon who did not notice them so we drove backwards and luckily they still stood there as I noticed them.

Image

The female who stared into one direction could in fact not be overlooked and after a closer investigation I noticed another adult lying on the ground whilst only the head could be seen

Image

but I also discovered two cubs in the high grass but luckily one of them showed up from time to time behind the back from the one female

Image

only to disappear again in the high grass.

Image

to be continued……..

Lots of nice smaller things, and some seen from your chair, which I far prefer instead of flat lions lol
