Police Accountability Tracker

By Daneel Knoetze for Viewfinder | 20 Oct 2021

Viewfinder’s Police Accountability Tracker is an interface to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate's (Ipid's) database of more than 47,000 complaints registered against the police between April 2012 and March 2020. Users can use the filters to home in on any police station for an overview of cases registered there. Users can also locate any individual case for a 'progress report', as at March 2020. The data demonstrate that police officers implicated in violent crimes routinely escape accountability.

TABLE: TOP 20 ‘MOST DANGEROUS CITIES’ REVEALED
The fact that residents in Kabul say they feel safer than residents in either Pretoria, Johannesburg, or Durban says it all. Only Brazil has more individual entries into the top 20, whereas the criminal havens of Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) and San Pedro Sula (Honduras) complete the leading five.

EU countries agree to lift South African travel ban

The latest: European Union member states have agreed to lift the air travel ban on South Africa and other southern African countries, which will allow more travel to resume.

What it means: The decision lifts the so-called emergency brake introduced in November, France, which holds the rotating EU presidency, said in a tweet.

In practice: Travellers from the region will still be subject to health measures applicable to travellers from third countries.

But I think, violent crimes have increased almost everywhere with unemployment rising and desperation taking over.
It's a mad world we live in. :-(
