Friday July 9th

On our last full day staying at Skukuza before we were due to head over to Lower Sabie we were keen to try and explore up the H1-2 and potentially get up to Tshokwane. The morning started with a nice sunrise, but it was cold and the animals seemed to be hiding away. -O-

We checked a number of waterholes around Manzimahle but everything was deserted. In retrospect we were probably too early in the morning what with the cold temperature and I’m sure we would have seen a lot had we travelled the same route a few hours later in the day, but the kids were itching to rather head back and down towards Nkuhlu.

Wildlife started appearing along the H12 with a giraffe using its height to reach some breakfast, some nyala, duiker, and a small raptor that I think is a gabar goshawk :-?

The kids felt very justified in their choice of route change when shortly after turning off the H12 bridge we found a couple of male lion just coming off the road. lol

Image

They found something equivalent of lion catnip off the side of the road and were happily rolling their heads in it, but it made them difficult to see until they continued their walk away from us and off into the bush.

4 leopards in one day is close to indecent lol Well done to you ^Q^

Fascinating that there were kinda only very few cars with the honeymooners. At least for Kruger standards. O:V

Beauuutiful sunset [Luv]

Posting while I was commenting...

Aha, more lions ^Q^

Something is off with that "gabar" but I wouldn't be able to say what else it might be. Just find the area around the eyes not very gabar like :-?
Bird experts must help. lol

What the goshawk is concerned, I agree with Mel, but has the same doubts about what it might be. LIzard would be fine, but the black throat line is not visible :-? -O-

It seems to be a duiker year

Lovely nyalas \O

Those lions need a good mane brushing lol

The whole trip was quiet by Kruger standards. Camp sites were busy, but other accommodation certainly wasn't full and there was a distinct lack of day visitors \O

Friday July 9th contd

The lions weren’t hanging around and very quickly disappeared off into the bush so we continued down the H4-1. There was a nice mix of game including some baboons by the road, elephants crossing and a big herd of buffalo not far from Lubyelubye O:V

The baboon looks as if she has just been washed and blow-dried lol

The impalas look so pretty and the setting is very pitoresque; apart from the croc ;-)
