Yesterday afternoon I took a strange selection of pics.

At about 16h00 I was busy washing my dishes, when I saw a herd of Elephant moving past the house in the direction of the river. They were in no hurry, stopping to feed along the way. When the dishes were done, I went out to watch them, they then slowly moved out of view. I grabbed the cameras and went down to the river to see if I could find them there. Just as I was leaving the house, I noticed that a few of them were still here, right next to my road...

I left these ones and went after the main herd. Down at the river, there was no sign of them. They had obviously stopped where I could not drive. All I got at the river was this Impala having a late afternoon drink...

My best bet was to head back up to the house, to get the ones that were there when I left the house. When I got back, they were also gone. I could hear them, but had no visual. I then heard a helicopter flying along the river. I went to the stoep and got a few pics of the rangers going home after doing Rhino monitoring...

It was now time to light the braai. While sitting at the fire, the setting sun looked superb...

Hopefully I have better luck with sightings tomorrow. Until then... X#X

The elephants must have heard the helicopter long before you did and have gone into hiding mode ;-)

Very good journal entry, Sparky!

It must be difficult losing a whole herd of elephant? --00--
