Oh, wow! The kids have really grown - incredible how time seems to fly!

What a lovely place you managed to get there at Marloth. Looks so much nicer and better kept than the accommodation inside the park.
And you do get so see wild life there too.

Oh, and lovely sunrise driving out of the Eastern Cape

It certainly is a different way of visiting Kruger, and allows you to do things you wouldn't be able to do in the park.

A couple of big crocs and also the buffalo

When we stayed at Marloth we had lots of birds, giraffes, zebras, bushbucks, warthogs of course and a few others. We stayed for a month so some days were spent at home

Yeah, we had ideas of spending some days at home as well. We managed some mornings but inevitably we ended up feeling like we might be missing something if we didn't trundle in to the park

Marloth always seems to have a healthy piggy population .Great to spend time with family walking in a park . sightings on the river

Yep the kids are really getting big now... far too quickly
It was very nice accommodation and the great thing is that if there's anything wrong with the place you've got someone to contact who can sort it out quickly

The river sections are great Alf. Some days there's more to see than others, but if you're prepared to take a walk or even just sit and wait, it's surprising how much turns up

After our relaxing morning and an early lunch we were itching to get into Kruger. The drive from our first place to Crocodile Bridge gate took about 30mins and because all the morning queues had disappeared we were into the park pretty quickly. Our plan for the afternoon was simple... head up the H4-2 to Lower Sabie and then travel back the same way with the exception of diverting down the S130.

As always when returning to Kruger after some time, even the 'normal' sightings are fascinating, but our first proper stop was at the Vurhami bridge where some elephant were drinking below



Further along the H4-2 we found a couple of ground hornbill walking towards us.
We stopped and pulled over at the side of the road and one came walking right past the passenger doors







It was quickly turning into something of a birding afternoon with a lovely sighting of a brown snake eagle as well as a giraffe hitch-hiker





Our first proper Kruger holiday road-block came into sight, but it wasn't a predator... instead these giraffe were busy fighting on the road! It was difficult to get any photos because of the trail of cars in front of us, but I'm sure you get the picture





Eventually they moved off the road and we continued on up towards Lower Sabie. This baboon seemed to be concentrating on something very important



At Lower Sabie we stopped at the low-level bridge where a green-backed heron was running around trying to find the best fishing spot





There were also some kudu and waterbuck in the vicinity





We popped up to Sunset Dam before heading back, and were amazed by the number of crocodiles sunning themselves on one side of the water





Of course the resident hippos were around, as well as many yellow-billed storks

Very intelligent-looking baboon, I must say.

Never seen the heron with its hairdo like that!

And the giant turtles are there at Sunset still...they are huge and maybe you can zoom a bit?

We saw lots of giraffes fighting...do they also have a "rutting" season?
