Lots of sandgrice around Olifants, I must say!

The crocodile needed indeed a couple of throws until

the also not small fish was eaten

and then descended.

Image

It was quite a lot to be seen and the river was flowing nicely – An egret landed on a close by rock,

Image

The green backed and pied kingfishers were still busy with their fishing whilst sitting on the dry bush in the river but to our delight the grey heron could now be seen closer

Image

as well as the yellow billed storks

and finally also the pied kingfishers dared to come closer.

After nearly an hour on the bridge it was time to check in and as the camp was not far we soon were owing the key to bungalow No. 9 in which we already stayed but at first we were a bit disappointed that we did not get No. 10 or 11 as the fence in front of that unit is blocking a bit the view but on the second sight we noted a nice huge tree right next to the unit with lots of birds in it and the privacy you do have in that unit is unbeatable as well as the view into the direction of the restaurant as from all the other units same is not that good as from here.

Whilst we unpacked we noted a flat tire which we wanted to look after at the filing station before we will leave for our afternoon drive – the tire was a bit flat but not that much but nevertheless needed an inspection but now it was time for us to enjoy the view into the river and to our feathered friends we could discover in the nearby tree. Grey louries were feeding on the fruits,

Image

a fish eagle who just caught a fish could be noticed in the air

Image

Image

and also a lizard was interested in the fruits who had fallen on the ground.

Image

Image

Lots of dark capped bulbuls were the next visitors

Image

and same were also feeding on the fruits

Image

and interested in the strange click sounds they noticed.

We could have spent the rest of the afternoon on our verandah and do bird watching but as we had to drive to the filing station we decided to give the Balule bridge another try. Luckily the guy from the filing station could help us and soon discovered one puncture in our tire caused by a nail and a slot caused by a sharp-edged stone. He soon fixed the tire and we still had enough time for our visit to the Balule causeway and the best was the tire kept the air till we dropped the car at the rental station.

Along our way until we reached the causeway we came across ground hornbills

Image

Image

and waterbucks until we stood again on the causeway.

Image

to be continued……
