The new fishway at the Engelhardt Dam in the Letaba River (Kruger National Park) will be the venue for our World Fish Migration Day event. Hundreds of tourists visiting the area daily and they will be given the opportunity to view the functioning of the fishway. Researchers will be present at all times to explain the purpose and functioning of the structure, and there will also be live demonstrations of fishway monitoring. The fish species sampled will be viewed in an aquarium for identification and their migratory requirements will be explained. A temporary information tent will provided to present posters and pamphlets for information pertaining to fish migration. The visitors will also be afforded the opportunity to potentially see some of the other wild animals (such as hippos and crocodiles) in their natural environment in the vicinity of the fishway. With the fishway situated in Big 5 country, an armed game ranger will be on-site for protection of the visitors. We hope that the event will enlighten the everyday tourist who is not aware of migrating fish and the impact of man-made barriers.

Re: Engelhardt Dam
Looks like a once-off thing, so fine!
it is quite a remarkable construction, and very important, though many decades old!
Gonna be dry though?
