At such a hot day it is indeed easier to spot those grey giants altogether at a water point \O

That mud wallow was simply the place to be

Image

and after the buffaloes had finished the rhino simply had to test that spot too

Image

and its moaning must have attracted more rhinos as suddenly more arrived whilst the buffaloes trotted off into the bush.

Image

It must have been the same rhinos

Image

we already spotted yesterday there

Image

and all had to test the best mud roller in the world.

Image

After a lot of testing and rolling had to be done everybody found its adequate place

Image

to discover that mud is wonderful.

Three rhinos in a row – Finally and for us far too soon everything was over and everybody was muddy and satisfied and walked back into the bush and

Image

for us it was the signal to return to our bungalow as well whilst we came across European bee eaters catching bees

Image

as well as a fish eagle.

Image

Today our braai was more than peaceful as no genet or black mamba paid a visit but the green pigeons were busy in feeding from a close by tree and after another eventful day we slept like babies.

Image

Sunday, 11th February 2018 – Berg en Dal – Crocodile Bridge

Travelled roads: S110 – H3 – S118 – S25 – S27 – H4-1 – S28 – H4-1

The minute the alarm clock went off it started to rain and at first we thought it sounded as if it will stop again only after two minutes but then it started to rain torrentially and we already thought that we might get completely wet when loading the car as today was our first moving day but we had luck as we were about to start loading the car it only dropped from the trees but for sure the walkway to the car was completely flooded but beside wet feet we at least got our stuff completely dry into the car and we even arrived at gate early enough to take a couple of shots and to see that the mountains were still wrapped in dark clouds.

Image

Today we wanted to drive via the Matjulu loop for the final time and maybe to discover some impact the rain had left – Although the animals kept away we discovered large puddles nearly everywhere

Image

which was more than a delight to see especially after having seen all the dry grass and bushes in that area

Image

and especially after seeing the Matjulu in nearly full flow at least for the moment or hours

Image

but good to know that more water was on the way to fill up the dam at camp and that was a sighting we would have loved to see how the dam might have filled up compared to the previous days.

Image

to be continued...
