23rd August 2015 - Day 2: Elephant Walk to Lower Sabie (Part 2)

About half way back to Lower Sabie on the H4-1 we spotted this Lioness heading down to the water, we must have just missed her crossing the road.

Image

She was very interested in all the other movement along the river

Image

She set off on the hunt for something that we could not see ?

Image

There was a failed attempt at a hunt but she soon wondered off to rest in the shade.

We booked in at Lower Sabie and set up on the river’s edge outside Keartland, Granny and Cailin on the watch….

Image

There is always so much to see from this spot, so we all agreed to take it slow and only go on a short late afternoon drive.

Some of the sights from the afternoon watch over the Lower Sabie Dam.

By the look of comments here, Kelly must have caused a stir with some of the tannies at Nkuhlu initially but his shirt would have given them a skrik =O: =O:

Parking off at Keartland is awesome O:V

23rd August 2015 - Day 2: Elephant Walk to Lower Sabie (Part 3) - Evening Drive

We left for the evening drive at 16h00, which gave us enough time to drive up the H4-1 to the S79 turn off and back.

Just 10 minutes of the road then this chap walked out the bush on the side of the road. He slowly crossed the road without even a sideways glance at us.

And was gone in 30 seconds.

The rest of the drive to the S79 turn was quiet, with a few general game sightings. After the turn we lost Roxy and Kelly who were following us. We use two way radios between the cars and after calling a few times, with no response, we turned back.

Kelly had spotted this male lion walking on to the road, we must have been seconds too early and had not seen him.
We followed him for as long as we could before we had to leave to make it back to Lower Sabie.

We hurried back at 50 kph to make it back before gate closing time, then this little one ran across the road. The road crossing was at full sprint but luckily she stopped and posed for a few photos [O]
