I wonder if the funding comes from the Department of Tourism
http://www.sanews.gov.za/south-africa/r ... ic-tourism

http://www.sanews.gov.za/south-africa/r ... ic-tourism
Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom says R110 million has been set aside to promote domestic tourism.
...
The Minister said, meanwhile, that the department will in the coming financial year support the enhancement of existing attractions.
He said this will include the building the Shangoni Gate as a new access point into the Kruger National Park; a Wild Activity Hub in Phalaborwa, and a visitor centre at the Tsitsikamma Big Tree.

Re: Shangoni Gate & Camps Kruger National Park
My impression is that the Government (of which Sanparks seems to be a part
) is working with a secret design for the future ( am I paranoid?), which is based on a plan to take a financial benefit of anything and everything, no matter the damage that it might cause to the sea, the rivers, the lakes, the wildlife, the mountains etc., that has no real cultural value to the present ruling majority

OK I would like a little clarification before I register, if anyone is able to give me this. Please don't think I'm hostile because I'm asking questions; I did register as an IAP for both the Malelane(Timfenene) lodge and the Skukuza Hotel but I like to know what I'm objecting to. First; some time ago I remember people asking for more tented/simple/ wild camps. SANParks, as I recall, said there were plans in the pipeline and people greeted this very positively. So - is this projected one near the Shangoni gate one of these tented/wild/simple camps, or is it more along the lines of the notorious Malelane Hotel/Safari-camp/ Safari Lodge with spas and bars and entertainment areas which is now going ahead? What is the tented camp going to consist of? Second; I know nothing about the area outside this part of the park - is this new road inside the park going to turn into another taxi route? If so, between where? Third, who will be running the picnic site - will this be another concession a la the Berg-en-Dal concession (failed) day visitors site? Or will it be SANParks? Fourth; am I right in thinking the this means that the Red-Rocks loop will be a loop no longer but a tarred highway? In addition, if you can think of any answers to the questions I have not yet asked - feel free to express them.

Registering as an IAP does not mean necessarily that you are against the development, it's just to get all relevant information and to be able to ask questions or submit comments.
You don't need to submit a comment now, at this stage there is not much info available and one should wait what comes up with the EIA documents.

Hello ubhejane, I think that you are mistaking AW with The Sanparks Forums. We have been fighting for maintenance of the status quo, but have never asked for any kind of new developments!ubhejane wrote:OK I would like a little clarification before I register, if anyone is able to give me this. Re: Shangoni Gate & Camps Kruger National Park
ubhejane, this thing has been denied from the start, if one looks back on the thread, which is a first red flag.
The tented camp and the campsite will more than likely be rustic, as per Tzendze. But the big lodge will be just outside the gate as per the PDZ crap motivation and ideology. It will be a tar road, messing up the Redrocks loop for years during construction, and international access to Mozambique was mentioned as a motivating factor. That is the only reason for a tarred road, all other developments can be serviced via simple dirt loops like the concessions, which would address the communities woes and what not sufficiently.
