Re: Sigma 150-500mm Lens
Hi there
I'm planning to buy a Sigma 150-500 lens, first Question: will it work on my Canon 450D, at Dions the sales person said it will work
then is the price of R 12000 a good price.(I might get it for R10800)
Thanks

Hi Harry
Are you talking about the 150-500 or 150-600? The 150-500 is obsolete and I wouldn't buy it at any price - I used to have one and it's a good lens for it's time but it has been superseded by the new super telephotos. I traded mine in for a Tamron 150-600 which is a far better lens. Sigma have the 150-600 Sport lens which retails at about R23,000 or the 150-600 Contemporary lens which has only recently been released and doesn't seem to be available here yet.
Here's a comparison article - http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1360174
Don't even think about the 150-500, I suspect that Dions are selling old stock. Either wait for the 150-600 Contemporary or get the Tamron which is available for around R14,000.
I doubt if you will have any problems with it working on your camera but I did have an intermittent problem with the Tamron hunting for focus on my D5100 but that problem has gone away since I got my D7200.

It is the 150-500, but I recon it should be far better than the 75-300 that I have now

That depends on which 75-300 you have but it won't be better than the Tamron or Sigma 150-600.harrys wrote:

, I've decided to save a bit more and then check the Tamron and new Sigma 150-600, I'll cope with my old lense for now

Re: Sigma 150-500mm Lens
Even more obsolete. It's been discontinued and is probably not as good as the 150-500. I looked at one when I got my D5000 in 2009 and there was some problem with the lens/camera interface so I got the 150-500.

Re: Sigma 150-500mm Lens
Hmmmm.... yeahhh , problem nowadays , technology changes so fast , stuff is outdated the day it becomes available for sale to the general public
Now , my old Pentax K1000 did very well for 20 years , and I took 1000's of pics with it all over the world
It's been lying in its bag and lenses , in a cupboard , for the past 12/14 years , and I am sure will still take pics as good as ever . Problem is you have to send it in to some place to be developed , and you are never sure how it will turn out , and if the mess it up .......
