Flutts, me and Mommo are trying something new in this TT as we are not going to our usual Kruger, but rather exploring the game reserves of Natal!I have been dying to go to these parks, as has Mommo and mom because they lived in Zululand many years ago and vaguely remember the parks as they visited them such a long time ago.
This trip was only planned a few weeks ago, when I went on holiday and we decided to go somewhere. Originally we were just going to go down to Ballito for a few days, but then my dad suggested that before Ballito we visit Mkuze and Umfolozi for a couple of nights to make the holiday longer. So we went searching for accommodation, but most of the rooms were booked. Luckily enough we got one night in Mkuze and three nights in Mpila camp in Umfolozi, where we will be staying in the 5 sleeper, as it was the only thing available.
We're off early on Saturday morning and things are starting to get packed, charged etc. etc. We even had the car cleaned today (the last time we washed it was when we went to Kruger in April this year )
Hopefully I will get to see wild dog in Umfolozi as apparently they are seen regularly, and hopefully for mom she will get some new birds in Mkuze! We are also thinking of taking a drive into Empangeni one day to have a trip down memory lane as that's where mom was born.

Nice one BB. Hope you all have a great time and find those dogs.
I've just finished reading a book about Wild Dogs and in it, the researcher on WD's where you will be going says that the best way to find them here is to look out for circling Yellow-billed Kites as they are always the first raptors to hone in on a Wild Dog kill. Hopefully, the Kites will be back in numbers when you are there to help you out. (They had started moving in when we were in Swaziland mid-month).

The cold front of the year just hit KZN today, so bring a jacket (although it's 18 degrees so it's probably warm for you)
The wind is howling though, so it will get cold on the hill at Mpila
