Recently I came across the attached mid-winter photo I had taken some years back of rhino spoor on the Namib-Nauklift flats about 30 kms NW of Kuiseb canyon. I found the tracks when I crawled out of my sleeping bag at sunrise and to my untrained eye, the spoor looks very fresh. I have no idea what the rhino distribution is in central Namibia and can't distinguish the 2 species from the tracks. Does anyone have an informed opinion as to which species is responsible? There certainly wasn't anything to browse on for many kms, but the grazing is rather sparse as well during winter on the Namib flats, so peraps an animal headed to "greener pastures".
Thanks, Bill

I would not be able to ID the tracks from your pics as I don't know them well enough to tell the difference.
Distribution wise it would be Black Rhino as there are no wild White Rhino in Namibia, (assuming you were not on a game farm that stocked White Rhino).
Maybe someone else can ID the tracks for you?

According to CITES there is a small population of white rhino in Etosha and Waterberg Plateau Park. Indeed, I would have to check with my partner, but I believe we have seen them in both.
