:-? If it has not changed recently, the Letaba section ranger is Andrew Desmet and the Houtboschrand section ranger is Rendani Nethengwe.

Houtboschrand section ranger Andrew Desmet was shot in the stomach during a joint operation between SANParks and the SA National Defence Force on Friday night, spokesman Reynold Thakhuli said in a statement.
The thing is, the above sentence is the only relevant one. The rest is irrelevant regarding the incident.

To prevent this happening, and it is an long known type of OPS(tactic) ; let one arm of your force take responsibility for a specific area and froze the area(no go) and nobody move there. If somebody moves e.g. at night during your patrols you shoot without fear for own forces. This incident could only happen due to bad communication or illegal actions.

I don't believe for one minute that this was a "friendly fire" incident. If it was a member of the SANDF that shot Andrew, they would have released a statement by now. ;-)
