Hi, I´m from Portugal, after two trips to Kruger I´ll be visitng KZN next July on a short trip with my family and I´ll stay for 2 nights at Hluhluwe at the Rhino Ridge Lodge.
Since the game drives there will surely occur at Hluhluwe sector I would like to visit also the Imfolozi sector but I have a few questions regarding distances and driving times.
We will spend the night before arriving to the park close to Durban airport, probably in Ballito close to the N2, so my plan is to leave the hotel around 6.30 in order to arrive to the Nyalazi Gate around 9.00/9.30 (I thought about entering by the Cengeni gate but I think the roads leading to that gate must be in worst condition and it could take longer).
First of all, on the way to the park will I pass by any supermarket already open to buy something to eat in the middle of the morning?
I want to arrive at the lodge around 2.30 in order to check in, eat and go on the afternoon game drive, I estimate 1 hour from Nyalazi Gate to the lodge (not counting with sightings) which means I would have more or less 4 hours do drive around Imfolozi, would that be enough to drive all the way to the Sontuli Loop? Or that´s too ambitious? Anyone knows what would be the distance in km of that drive?
On top of my wish list are wild dogs and cheetah and it seems that Imfolozi is the best bet to spot them although I know that with such a limited time It would be like winning the lottery...

Here is a map with distances, Pedro:

Wild dogs are difficult to see in the late morning or around lunch time, so rather make a plan what to enjoy in the middle of the day
For shopping you can find everything at the rather new mall at Mtubatuba (Shoprite and liquor etc)

Re: A few questions
Thanks a lot, that map gives me an idea and it seems that going from Nyalazi Gate to the Sontuli Loop and back can be done in 4 hours, although it can be a little tight, but at mid day animals are scarser, as you say, so there won´t be too many stpos, unless I´m lucky enough with a special sighting but in that case I wouldn´t care to arrive to the lodge in time to the afternoon game drive.Toko wrote:Here is a map with distances, Pedro:

But if anyone has a better suggestion I would consider it.
And that Mtuba Mall seems perfect, I saw that some shops open at 8.00.
