What gear do you have...
Re: What gear do you have...
Old topic, but being really happy right now. Bought one of the old "analog" lenses, one of the best: the chinon 35mm f2.8 for 25 euro's (335 Rand) with a m42-mount so that it fits on my canon. This lens was one of the best and I just love it already
Also bought another analog lens the vivitar 80-205 with a 2 times tele converter. Which makes it a 160-410 if I want with still a fairly good diafragma (5.6-7.0)
And hope to buy tomorrow another two lenses: the Asahi Pentax 55mm f1.8 and the Minolta MD rokkor 45mm f2.0
Both are known as some of the best (still affordable) lenses on the market, but also again both are analog.
Furthermore I don't have that great gear, saving to get better gear but do have:
Canon 400 EOS D + 18-200 and all those analog.
And have two Nikon 3200 here, although I don't know why I have 2
I should sell one I guess.
That nikons go with the normal 18-55 and a 50mm f1.8
Also have a nikkor 70-300 IS (a fairly normal one) and have a novoflex flexar 400mm + 600mm (just bought, analog) for this one, although those novoflex flexar lenses also fit on the canon
Maybe a lot of "analog" gear, so have to focus everything myself, but I kinda love it, it has it's own charm. Mainly using the canon for analog and the nikon for "normal" shots

Alf, the canonites will tell you to go for cannon, the nikonites for nikon etc. etc.
It all depends on how much you want to spend on your set up as to what you go for.
Set yourself a budget and have a look on the internet for prices, reviews etc. for models within your price range.
Visit a dealer and get the feel of the different bodies in your hands.
Whichever body you go for, get wide to medium zoom for landscapes etc - i.e. 17-55mm then a 100 - 400mm zoom lens for wildlife.
Both the Nikon & Canon lenses in this range are excellent, but not as cheap as other makes.
Once you decide which one to go for, start saving up like mad as within a year you will want the newest, latest all singing, all dancing model you wish you can afford as once hooked, there is no going back.
