This is drilling for soil samples...the deeper you go, the more the samples tell you! :-)

RP this brings back memories .Not that as a youngster I went to KNP that would have been a bonus .But as a scholar in Gauteng we went to a nature camp (Loskop) and did studies on nature and trees .We had fun in a dam and did night time activities this was a highlight of the year .

When my sons went to High school my eldest did one camp to a local nature adventure center then they stopped all camp outings as they did not have time in the school curriculum anymore .I think this ,especially in SA given our natural heritage ,is a huge mistake .Nature and conservation should be something instilled in all school going children .To give youngsters an understanding of ecology and nature is critical .

We are also fortunate in our area we have a pre-school called Birches that instilled a fantastic sense of ecological importance in my children .This schools has gone from strength to strength and won numerous awards for the ecology programs such as recycling ,growing your own veggies ,raising chickens.

Thanks, Roger!

The National curriculum has a lot of conservation stuff spread over various subjects, so not too worried about that?

But the priority attached by the various cultures/socio-economic groupings/officials differs wildly, unfortunately... :-(

Interesting info. coming in here, keep this thread alive! Do the kids do "Science Projects" in SA? Maybe some opportunities to educate themselves and others this way. \O I LOVED doing them and going to the science fair competitions when I was in school - (back when the dinosaurs were roaming the earth). lol
