As for how much time - Re: the ladybird, with a little patience you may find one near aphids, as that is a food source. You may see all the various stages of larva and pupa, and just keep checking to see when it starts to emerge. I go on " walking insect safaris"

The jumping spider's web was in my door jam, so it was easy to keep an eye on it. Here's a pic of the spiderlings, tho' not really very good as they are TEENY TINY and rather gelatinous at birth.
