Lions Get Shocked During Hunt

While on safari in Sabi Sands Game Reserve, bordering the Kruger National Park in South Africa. Safari guide, Ernest Porter and his guests tracked two lionesses to a waterbuck and found it lying in the grass with the two lionesses just a few meters away, but the lionesses appeared apprehensive to attack due to an electric fence beside the antelope.

“We figured that they chased it into the fence, run full speed into the waterbuck and just instantly stopped because of the fence and possible got shocked in the process. The lionesses were a few metres away from the waterbuck but would not go in for the kill,'' says Porter.

Electric fences are a necessity in game reserves due to animals damaging equipment and theft, but unfortunately, do occasionally interfere with the natural behaviour of the animals.

“We waited to see what was going to happen and eventually the one lion jumped onto the waterbuck and by doing so touched the fence, got shocked and jumped off the waterbuck very confused. She then walked back to the waterbuck and continued the hunt. In the video you can see the confused lions getting zapped by the fence and looking, trying to figure out what is going on, `` he continues.

Despite the small protection the fence provided, the lionesses killed the waterbuck after being shocked many times in the attack

The waterbuck must have been more seriously shocked than the lion  Double shocked, first by the lions and then by the fence

Peter, you are not very rational. The reserves have to start and stop somewhere if not there would not be any wildlife left.

The video reminds me of a Set up Bull fight in Spain on a Sunday Afternoon ...Safari vehicles lining up engines running with a half electrocuted waterbuck pinned against a fence while the $$$$$$ paying tourists see the REAL wild side of the African Wilderness complete with a superb natural background they all saved hard for years to come and see 0/* 0/* =O: =O: how different to the Sabi Sands I grew up in the 1950s and 60 s

Unfortunately, we cannot turn back the clock :-( we must try to get the best out of what we have got ;-)
