Quick Camdeboo Visit

The other weekend our daughter had a hockey match in Graaff-Reinet so we made the most of the day trip with a quick visit to see the Valley of Desolation as well as a short drive around the game area (not that it could realistically be long even if we wanted it to be
)
It's been quite a few years since we last popped in, but the views are stunning as always

The road up to the top has been tarred since we were last there which is probably a good thing if they have more visitors now. Another change is that the game area fences have been removed in places so there is a bigger area for animals to move around should they so wish
In the game area our first sightings were of springbok and eland

It was a very windy day so the wind-powered water pump was working very well and some vervets were taking full advantage of the fresh water

We spotted some distant gemsbok and ostrich

The more open areas at the back of the game area had plenty of springbok dotted around

But they seemed to get spooked by our car very easily and bounded off with plenty of pronking

Some babies were around - a very tiny gemsbok calf and a springbok which was very well hidden

There are plenty of mountain zebra and black wildebeest to see

We were also fortunate to spot some meerkat as well as a Karoo Korhaan which I think is a first for us

Our last sighting before heading home was a unicorn-duiker
