Re: Kruger's Motley Crew
Forget about the moving earth and stuff... This is the circumstance that really puts me off macro... lying on the ground in the KTP with those creepy crawlies not in the focus of my lens marching all over me and the flies attacking from airExFmem wrote: ... , so I usually get on the ground, maybe 3 feet away, get the camera into position so there is minimal movement needed as I move in closer and closer. Or I just position myself somewhere and see what comes my way.
Super shots of the saddle-billed though
God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

Re: Kruger's Motley Crew
You guys/gals are real Troopers - THANK YOU!
Sis - As you noted, there are lots of insects/spiders on bushes, flowers, sides of buildings, etc. No absolute need to be on the ground necessarily. I've even used a ladder to reach critters on flowering trees. Go for it!
RP - I've had macro shots featured in Nature's Best Photography Magazine, won Grand Prize as well as 1st and 2nd places in the Close-Ups category, and several honorable mentions in the Palm Beach Post's Florida Nature contests, and had macros chosen to be displayed at the Palm Beach Photographic Center Art Show, but never featured in any of "big" photo contests.
Haven't entered anything recently - need to start again.
Mel - I sometimes put a cloth on the ground, mainly because of all the thorns in the KTP, but it could also be a slight deterrent to bugs I suppose. But then again, that's what I WANT to attract. Of course the lights at night attract stuff to your patio area in camp which may appeal to you more. But, yep, they also land ON you from time to time.
Sorry for all the birds, RP. It seems of the 12 "S" entries I have, 9 (75%) are birds!

The spider with the ant in the web is remarkable
Why is there only one squirrel It is soooo cute
The spoon-billed stork is beautiful
