Head not concealed by pronotum makes it subfamily Luciolinae, and if SANBI data are not outdated, there is only one genus in SA, with these species:

Luciola bimaculata
Luciola bimaculicollis
Luciola caffra
Luciola capensis
Luciola cincticollis
Luciola cisteloides
Luciola dregei
Luciola exoleta
Luciola falsa
Luciola fusca
Luciola fuscula
Luciola japonica
Luciola krugeri
Luciola nitidula
Luciola obscuripennis
Luciola perpetiuscula
Luciola pumila
Luciola tetrasticta
Luciola turneri
Luciola umbratica

It's very tempting to label it L. krugeri =O:
-O- can not find anything re key

Thanks for the answer on the fire fly. Will write it up as L. species when I get to it.

(You'll see the very important project I'm spending my time on today in another topic. O** O** ) ;-)
