Ja, we had this debate a few pages back...the females are meant to be lighter with smaller horns, this is the other way round! :-?

On my S126 FOM thread I mentioned my fruitless search for Sable.
It has been many many years since I last saw one.

Where are the best areas/roads to see them??

Basically the two best areas are the entire S-36 area (west of the Tshokwane-Satara tar road) and the Pretoriuskop/Afsaal area! \O

Over the last 5 years or so they have been seen quite a bit on the Salitje Road (S-30) and near Kruger Tablets (H1-2).

They seem to be increasing in the entire area north of the Letaba River up to Shingwedzi, but there is so little tourist traffic that sightings records are unclear.

One sad bit is that they used to be very common around Phalaborwa, and regularly seen north of Satara, but that has changed. (Sable dam and Witpens Suiping are named after them).

They can really pitch up anywhere, though!

Unusual localities for me have been Mpondo Dam, Magamba and Mlondozi.

Best area in the Park Talamati for Sable ..Granite soils ..Skikuza used to have many and Mala Mala means sable ..and they used to hunt them for meat instead of the then rare impala ..Now Impala got a foothold in over the decades and degraded the required Sable habitat where today the Impies are plenty and Sable plains have been replaced by unsuitable thorn thicket ...Sable occur well in the South Lisbeth ..Pretorius Kop Good example but Impala are less there
