i do believe that this is only possible if you have a really smart phone that has a gps device that has been activated........

It can be the same with apps with built in trackers you download to your phone.
There was a docu on this some time ago on German telly. Some guys offered
a free app for something (can't remember exactly) that is popular with young
people. Once the app was on the phone they could trace the person anywhere
and had access to how he / she used her phone.
