Two Days in the Crater.

In early June 2009, I spent 2 nights in Pilanesberg with my Saffie friend J. We arrived early in the afternoon and the fourth sighting after we entered the park was a mating pair of Lions. But more about those later. We had booked a chalet at Bakgatla and found it very comfortable with meals included in the price which were very tasty and there was plenty of choice.

The first morning we were at the gate waiting impatiently to get in. We headed down to the hide at Ratlogo (I think?) and sat there enjoying the wildlife for quite some time.

Early morning as the sun rose.

Heading to Mankwe Dam, the scenery was impressive.

As we drove close to the Dam, a Zebra foal was very confiding.

Thanks for the comments all. \O

J said that we had better take a peek at Sun City, so I reluctantly agreed. As we came down the hill towards the back gate, we pulled over and I took one photo. "Wow!, look at the Swifts around the towers." I exclaimed as we turned around and put some distance between what is to me my worst nightmare (too many people in a constructed environment) and the bush.

Swifts around the towers.

As mentioned in the first post, we saw Lions almost as soon as we entered the park. These two were busy cavorting in the undergrowth whilst a second male lazed next to our bakkie trying to look disinterested in the goings on up the hill.

"I'm not interested".

"Oh, ok then, just a quick peek."

"I knew I should not have looked."

Not a bad start to our little jaunt.
