Just returned from my first visit to Sirheni Camp:
(R1965 per night for 6 adults)
As the intro to this thread states the following:
Post all Problematic Issues regarding Accommodation, Maintenance and Service in The Kruger Park here. I shall register complaints regarding service...
1. Upon booking Sirheni accommodation, there is no mention made of the fact that refrigeration facilities do not include freezer compartments in the units...just a big fridge that runs for 6 hours in the morning and from 4-8 in the evening. (This never happened...sometimes you are rewarded with an extra hour or so...or punished with an hour or so less!) You are meant to leave your frozen stuff in a single basket allocated in a communal freezer at the gate. This basket can house about 4 frozen flat chickens...to give an idea of the size. In fact the info under "availability" only says "kitchen"...so one must draw one's own conclusions? I didn't, and phoned and they said there was a fridge but warned death and distruction should you attempt to use a power point, of which there is only one for the fridge! (Still nothing about communal freezer, so I assumed a fridge with a freezer compartment like Mbyamiti, for example!?)
2. I begged them twice to arrange an extra braaier for the first night, as we were doing a big meal of chicken . No problem, it was stated twice. Upon arrival there was no extra braai...and after trudging back to the gate I was informed that there is no such policy, as people used the spare braai to cook on the verandah!
When I said that they should have told me that in the first place, and got "strict", they grudgingly organised the big braaier from the boma for us. (In the event it stayed there all trip and was lovely!

)
3. When we arrived (after 14h30) the bungalow was still in the process of being cleaned and mopped and what not...a major mess and inconvenience when trying to settle into your spot in heavy heat...but anyway, not the end of the world...obviously the place wasn't quite clean enough...(I had to clean the bath myself in preperation for my weekly ablutions..). Trudging back to the gate again the response was "Sorry, but your unit was last in line to be cleaned".
Sensing a problem, I promised the cleaning lady a sum of money to wash dishes the next morning, which she said was unneccessary, as they would clean the place early anyway, as was the norm! (Indeed, there were a number of cleaners there before 7 am the next day!

)
4. The Second morning...no such luck! After 09h30 I trudged around camp again to find a cleaner myself, and met a chap who said he was on his way to our place anyway...and informed me that the normal cleaner was on leave...
5. On the first evening I made the mistake of opening the warming drawer of the stove to get a possible oven pan...and a few years' worth of weird and wonderful insects and leaves etc. came out of there...I closed it fast!
6. The second morning around 11o'clock, with temperatures creeping up to 40 degrees that day, we stopped at reception eagerly hoping to purchase ice for our coolers...but it was locked with nobody at home!
7. That afternoon, we saw it was open...but sorry, little ice left so maximum 2 bags for us! (No delivery that day!)
8. The staff also had a weird way of cleaning the braais...not scraping the ash out but rather flooding them with water...never seen that before and makes quite a mess...but not the end of the world, I suppose!
9. The gate....should presumably be fixed very soon indeed?
