My goodness, stf
What remarkably beautiful photographs, you have captured an England that I always imagine was the one in which Agatha Christie lived in, the glory days of rail and so on. Hauntingly lovely, they make me long to visit there, and as someone with an avid dislike of the cold, that's saying something -O .
Some of the pictures of the sea wall bring to mind the coastline of Kalk Bay....
Enjoy the holiday, and keep us posted.

If my arithmetic is correct - I make it 5 years old.

Hello...so the engine was built in 2008?
The Prince of Wales what not emblem on the front leaves a tantalising end!?

I'm sure it was originally built long before 2008 RP, probably been lying in some junk yard for years and then overhauled in 2008.

Hi STF.
Many memories - I'm the other half of the honeymoon trip August 1975.
Also you have made me think back to when I was a girl travelling on the steam trains, many holidays to North Wales and Cornwall.
When I left school I worked for British Rail Eng. Ltd. in Crewe - a long association as my father worked there until he retired.
Thanks so much am loving this trip down memory lane.
Wonderful that you and Joan can spend time with your lovely family and share it with us.
Best wishes to you Richard - enjoy.

According to the document above from the Tornado web site it was built from scratch. This is interesting as I also wondered how does one build a locomotive from scratch. I will try and find out more.

On Sunday we went to lovely place for Sunday Lunch with our kids and some of their friends.
This is where we went for lunch.
The beer garden was deserted.
An unidentified bird in a snow covered tree.
Opposite the lodge there was tram line so Joan took this rather interesting photo.
Next, while the youngsters enjoy themselves in the warmth of the lodge I venture out to try my hand at some close up, without using the close up function

, nature photography in the garden.

Having just read up on the Tornado website I can confirm that the locomotive was built from scratch from the original plans. Eighteen years it took.

Just catching up again STF. Great pics, very evocative.
The bird is a Male Blackbird - a close relative of your Olive/Karoo Thrushes.
If you thought this was scenic, wait till you do the Settle-Carlisle journey.
