I've never seen the green face on the egrets like that!

What a rainy day, once again with remarkable wet bird views!

We would definitely go back we drove already once the loop roads whilst doing a day trip from Skukuza but doing these roads during an afternoon drive is still on my wish list - That rain was not nice but we still got more rain

The buffaloes seemed to love the rain whilst we struggled to take pictures as we was raining into the car whilst photographing them

Obviously today was burchell’s coucal day as we photographed another one



and as it was still quite early we decided to drive into the direction of Nkhulu and follow that road until same was open. From time to time now even the sun peeped out from behind a cloud and we were happy about the masses of Carmine bee eaters on a dead branch





out of which one caught an insect and was throwing same permanently in the air



to make same eatable.



For sure one of the Carmine bee eaters took a closer look maybe to get a share.





Shortly before Nkuhlu picnic spot a large group of baboons either members were hanging around on the road whilst others occupied a couple of trees



and as there was less traffic we stopped and photographed a lot of them



especially the little ones are simply too cute.



We took our time in watching and photographing them as they are always so entertaining especially when so many of them are around.





Whilst reaching Nkuhlu we already noted that the tar road was closed behind the picnic spot so we stopped there to look a bit around and stretch the legs although also here it must have rained earlier as there were a lot of puddles and it was muddy as well.

Whilst strolling a bit around we noticed a spotted flycatcher



captured the strongly flowing Sabie river

and had an extensive photo shooting with a lizard



who was taking a sunbath as finally the sun came out completely and even the sky turned meanwhile from grey into blue.





After a while we drove back and now we stopped for this nicely posing grey heron plus carmine bee eater on a dead tree in the foreground and the Sabie river in the background.





We even noticed a couple of red faced mousebirds in flight and could capture one



and also lots of green pigeons had occupied a dead tree



and we even could photograph them in the open





as this bird specie could also be found very hidden in a tree top and we were happy in finally photographing one in flight.



After the heavy rain over night and during the morning we noticed already that the water level was dropping



in the smaller streams



nevertheless it is always incredible how fast such dry riverbeds can turn into a strongly flowing stream and on the contrary can drop extreme fast.

We loved it how the heron posed in the dead tree and for sure so entertaining in watching the baboons as well as carmine bee eaters
