Thanks Lis - your Marabou pics show the long, dangling throat sac clearly.
It has a long, dangling throat sac which is not associated with the ingestion of food; instead it is air-filled and probably used for courtship or breathing.
The naked 18-inch inflatable pink sac is particularly conspicuous during the breeding season.
It connects directly to the left nostril and acts as a resonator allowing the bird to produce a guttural croaking.

Hmmmmm..... Storks was the bird of the month for March 2013 , and the last post was on 18th March 2013 , therefore I hope it's OK if I post some new pics onto this thread , at this late date
We usually see at least a few Saddlebills when we visit KNP , but in September 2013 , we saw quite a few , and almost every day .
Following are some pics which I feel I just had to share , and is a sequence involving a family , mom , dad , and Junior .
