Love the kingfisher couple, and well done on the tyre fix! ^Q^
That guy was indeed very helpful and even fast - We were extreme happy that we could continue our journey safely \O

The yellow billed storks as well as the pied kingfishers could now be discovered

Image

even closer,

Image

a fish eagle just landed on a small bush

Image

and the hippos were grazing.

Image

After we spent another lovely time there it was time for us to turn around and on our way back to camp we came across a group of hyenas

Image

which we do quite often met in the evening

Image

when driving back to camp along that road.

Image

Image

A large herd of elephants could be traced on the other side of the river and they carried on quite steadily and fast into the direction we drove as well

Image

so we switched from them to the many grazing hippos in the river

and the elephant herd until the road was finished

Image

but gladly could also capture tree bateleurs in a tree before we finally reached the camp.

Image

After Timon lit the braai and I was sitting on our verandah overlooking the river I noticed that our elephant herd from earlier had arrived and was about to cross the Olifants which for sure brought also all other people staying at the river view bungalows on the scene as well

Image

and all of them stayed as long the elephants were visible and with the burning fires in the braai stands it was again one of those special Kruger moments

Image

and later whilst we still sat on our verandah enjoying the night atmosphere we noticed a strange illuminated planet - It was definitely not the moon but far smaller maybe it was just the ISS but funny to watch.

Image

Thursday, 22. February 2018 - Olifants

Explored roads: H8 - S44 - S93 - S46 - H1-6 - H1-5 - S92 - S90 - S89 - S39 -H1-5 - H8 - H8 - S92 - S90 - S89 - H1-5 - H8

Before we even left today camp we simply had to capture the more than breathtaking sunrise

Image

which we could watch from our verandah whilst sipping on our coffees. Somehow the S44 was that early morning open as yesterday same was still closed and so same was ours.

I guess many people avoided that road today due to the slippery mud so it had very less traffic but we enjoyed it to be nearly all alone on a road although must say there is normally not much traffic either on that road. We for sure got out at the get out point where you are allowed to leave your car and walked a bit around to capture the beauty of that area

Image

and although we stopped there a couple of times already it is always that mind-blowing that we could not drag ourselves away and spent quite

Image

a while there watching around down to the river and simply enjoyed the beauty and quietness of the early morning. To our delight we watched far away on the other side a hippo mom with her youngster who she guided safely into the water

Image

which was amazing to watch as the youngster was so small and cute

Image

and right down to where we stood we noticed a grey heron who just caught a fish.

Image

to be continued……
