After having 2 superb lionesses in camp the previous early morning I was keen to find them again the next morning ...The normal mob of lions had killed a Gemsbok the evening before 5 kms south of camp which was great for me as the Rooiputs camp was empty and the kill IF the lions were still there gorged and fast asleep no doubt would trap/halt the normal gate opening Twee Rivieren Paris Dakar rally dust cloud charge to Rooiputs 30kms north of TR . This would allow me to go north ALONE as in no other cars for an hour or so to hopefully find these 2 superb lionesses ..I had travelled 10 kms when I saw them on top of the dunes on the left scanning and moving north slowly ..Aha Kij Kij Windmill is 3 kms to the North so if they hurry up I will be the only one at this waterhole when they arrive for a drink ..So I drove the 3 kms and waited there and set up in anticipation watching and listening for cars ..None came ..The lion kill scenario was working out PERFECTLY ..20 mins later I saw the 2 lions now in the riverbed approaching and very soon they were in range ..Unfortunately 2 cars were rapidly approaching when the lionesses were only 50 metres from a lovely reflectionside drink and they also did not like this intrusion and left ..Pic of their approach at 100 metres and closing

A new arrival this year at Rooiputs this year was this beautiful lioness and her equally beautiful sister ..Seen in front of camp well before sunset ..just my Bakkie from Camp and the nearby lodge Gameviewer with 1 couple on board ..They were totally silent and therefore most welcome ..My camera shutter made the noise ..thankfully the replacement D850 is very quiet (NEEDS a click to get those pre sunrise colours to appear)
