Hi Nan, no, not Hobby. A Kgalagadi special. Look closely at the patterning on the back and the tail pattern - broad, black band. Head pattern & colour is also a good pointer.

I got really excited when I saw your pic as it's one of the best I've seen of this species.

hmmmmmmz..... Taita Falcon... but not occur in Kgalagadi... as per my book ... a lost one

Hi Nan, Hope I have not misled you here, you have probably seen them before in KTP, but I've only seen one as it flashed by in a blur.

Bigger than Taita, smaller than Lanner. (Both of these do not show the boldly marked back pattern seen in your pic).

Probably not that rare in KTP, but not as common as Lanner.

Maybe I know.... the black end of the tail with the white tip..............

A Peregrine is more greyish than mine... but the size is between Lanner and Taita
also with a big tears and white at the end of the tail

Smaller than a Peregrine. The only Falcon in the region with the broad black tail band. Head colour might help?

well, the last one ... Red-necked Falcon, also no feather on the leg, white at the end of the tail, rufous head... but not so important tears

and even if this Falcon is not in my books ... it's a beautiful one... and Falcons are... wow... so nice
