begin nest building up to 6 months beforehand. Apart from flight displays, they also display on the nest together as they start the nest building by trampling a flat area in the crown of a bush or small tree.
Secretary birds are the world's only terrestrial eagles...and apparently really suck at nest-building...sort of like amphibians having to go back to water to breed!
I wonder where those buffalo come from...all sorts of breeding of disease-free buffs going on all over SA over the last decade, including some Kruger ones, which provide the better horns compared to Addo, which used to be the only local supplier!
