You cannot have everything and compared to other years the Satara area was a bit quiet caused by the rain which set in the next day :O^

When we have been told about the kill in a tree I always searched in big trees - For me this is a bush but nevertheless interesting ;-)

After another break at N’wanetsi picnic spot it turned out to be totally quiet and on our way back via the S100 we only stopped for zebras

Image

Image

and nothing else also the birds somehow were gone. As the previous days brought already extreme good sightings with long time on the road we were not that unhappy that it was not that busy that day and so we enjoyed a longer break in camp before we then decided to pay Girivana another visit. We stopped for some vultures in a tree

Image

and for more wildebeests

Image

who could be found during that day nearly everywhere in that area.

Image

At Girivana a group of zebras was hanging around and were about to leave and so we were but the behaviour of the zebras forced us to look at least into the direction were they were staring at and then I said to Timon: “lioness” and far in the distance we saw a group of four lionesses in a row approaching the waterhole and whilst doing so the zebras went on the run and a group of elephants instead invaded and were extreme disappointed that the waterhole was offering that less water

Image

and so they stayed not that long but we parked once again in their beaten track and so we had to drive a bit backwards to let them pass.

Image

Meanwhile the first lioness in the row came closer

Image

and was nearing the big water container a bit farer away

Image

and it looked as if the elephants had played with the water and same overflowed and a small puddle had been built as not only this lioness but also the others tried to drink from there.

We still hoped that they might come closer to the only sparsely filled waterhole and to our delight they indeed made the intention to do so.

Image

Image

Not only one but also the others followed as well and were hanging around the waterhole now and one had a blind eye

Image

and meanwhile three of them were trying to quench their thirst – One of my favourite picture from that sighting -

Image

At the beginning we were nearly the only car here but for the time being a lot of cars stopped as well and enjoyed that sighting.

Image

It was hard work to reach the water but as their snouts looked wet at least a bit water could be reached. The fourth lioness was still busy with sharpening her claws

Image

whilst the others tried to reach the precious water

Image

and gladly for us and all the other people in the cars the last one also dared to come closer.

Image

to be continued…..
