A Weekend in Grietjie

After visiting the shop and buying some ice creams (which took quite a while ) we left Letaba and soon arrived at Olifants as there was nothing to stop for on the way.

We headed to the restaurant and managed to get a table outside on the deck. After placing our orders everyone wandered off to check out the view.



Impala in the distance which turned out to be giraffe when viewed through binoculars.



There were some waterbuck a bit closer.



The drinks eventually arrived but the food took quite a lot longer, so we went back to look for more stuff.



Even SO got into the spirit of things!



A lifer for me...Greyheaded Bush-shrike!





The food did eventually arrive. We had all ordered toasted sandwiches with two variations...two on brown bread and one with salad...but they still managed to mess up the order! Anyway, the food wasn't bad and filled the holes in our stomachs. Everyone then wanted to check out the shop again which, again, took a while. Leopard and lion had been seen south of the camp and we thought of trying to find them but then realised we'd taken rather a long time with our lunch and had to start heading back towards the gate.

It's incredible the time they take to make something as simple as toasted sandwiches and also mess up the order. As usual it's the training missing Without proper training they will never understand the point of view of the clients

must have been a strange feeling to think that you have to exit the park

and not head for a rest camp at the end of the day..........

at least you got your kruger "fix"

Impaffes...I like that! Yes, I think service is always going to be a problem in Kruger.

That's why I've never wanted to stay outside the park...hate that feeling of having to leave!

Heading back up towards Letaba, we found a nice kudu bull in the riverbed.



Impressive horns.



We then came across this waterbuck pair. He would not leave her alone.







I'm sure they were about to do the deed but we waited as long as we could and nothing happened.

Then I found another lifer...a Cinnamon-breasted Bunting.



At Olifants we had switched seats and I was travelling with Tina and the girls, and Flavio was in my car with the boys. Never travelled behind my car in Kruger before!



It was a very quiet drive back to the gate but our last sighting for the day was another lifer...a Southern Black Tit.



So, not a lot of sightings, but we had seen cheetah and I found 3 new lifers so not a bad day's work!

Having an interest in birds is almost vital, when in a park. If not there are days when you risk to be very bored

they are always "interested" in the ladies and this behaviour occurs all year round.
