Mel wrote:I agree - the colours are absolutely amazing! And that oryx on the red dune
against the beautiful blue sky is particularly nice. \O

Interesting tawny sighting - would have loved to watch that as well. O:V

But the last full day? :-(
The pics of the Oryx galloping across the due are some of my favourites for this trip too. \O

Day 12, Friday June 14, Twee Rivieren. Continued.....

Back at camp we were visited by the tourons. One of them pretended to be an attorney who was "representing" his clients; he told me I would have to come back to the nearest town to attend a court case, "But we can make this go away", which I assume meant that he wanted me to pay the fine for them.

I told them to go away and send me a summons but he persisted until I picked up my phone and called the KTP emergency number. They left in a hurry. The police arrived shortly after with a couple of parks board people; they told me that the matter was already settled and they had been fined R1000.00 and told to leave the park.

I thought that the fine was OK but being booted out of the park as well was a bit harsh - well, it would have been harsh if they hadn't tried to extort money from me!

I spoke to the section ranger on the phone later and he told me that they were told to leave the park (by the park manager) because they wanted to cross the border at Mata Mata and they hadn't spent the required 2 nights in the park. They were told they had to leave the park at Twee Rivieren.

Before I set off for my afternoon drive, Yellow Mongooses

Being made to go a long way out of their way was good enough!

Serves them right for behaving like spoiled children when they got caught being naughty!
