Personally therefore , for obvious reasons , I would not use such fumigated wood to cook my food over an open fire .
This is a joint order with another ex-SA friend of mine.
He is still keen on the Kameeldoring.
I called the supplier and asked them what the wood gets spayed with ?
She didn't know, but will investigate and get back to me.
She did say that the Health and Safety laws in this country are very strict, and if there is something that could cause problems, their company would not be allowed to sell it.

The thing is , I do not use charcoal - never

IMO , using charcoal is extremely wasteful and not sustainable
However the time from lighting to cooking is a lot quicker........
If one lights it with decent starters

Dzombo , Health and Safety laws do not cover how you use various fuels for cooking your food over open fires . There is absolutely nothing to stop you from using any fuel to cook food with , coal , petrol , fuel oil , whatever
But , will you really cook your food over coal , or petrol , or fuel-oil , or whatever ?
I will take you a bet that that lady will not come back and present you with a copy of the necessary phytosanitary certificate
But hey , remember , there is absolutely nothing to stop you from using that imported wood
Hopefully she will be able to tell me what chemical was used.
And I will then look up info online. Decay rates etc.
All I want is a nice braai.
Not to become a chemical scientist!

So on Saturday I went to the SA shop 10 mins away to get the week's supply of biltong.
They had just received a shipment of Kameeldoring wood. Was quite expensive, but I bought a bag to give it a try.
Had a braai on Sunday for lunch.

I recon that after the wood has been subject to the heat/flames, and has become glowing embers, any vestiges of chemicals would have been burnt away.
