Day 0. Saturday 17 May 2014. Phalaborwa Gate -> Letaba.

The first thing we did after we checked in at the gate was to change our booking for the night. Instead of Olifants - which was in the wrong direction seeing as we were heading to Tsendze the next day - we stayed at Letaba. We were given one of the newly refurbished huts in the G ring; it was very nicely done but still not worth R950 per night.

Along the way we found an interesting beetle and a Tawny Eagle.

At the camp I spotted what I thought was a large moth in the rafters of the verandah but it turned out to be a Common Evening Brown Butterfly.

We took a walk along the river front and aside from a big tusker that was too far away for a picture, we managed to spot a Thicktailed Galago and a Cricket.

You photos of the smaller animal are stunning.

We have never see your Common Evening Brwon Butterfly. Well done. ^Q^ ^Q^

Cannot wait to hear what it was you saw that would turn B>C>'s pelican to Maribou. =O: =O:

Thanks again for the welcome back guys and for the comments!

Nan : As you know, insects and the other things with 2 extra legs have become an interest of mine recently :-)

Mel : Those pesky bushbabies are always difficult to get pictures of!

Toko : Lots more little things to come O/\ O/\

STF : It's what we didn't see that would have had them looking like Marabous!

Day 1. Sunday 18 May 2014. Letaba -> Tsendze.

The next morning we decided to spend some time at Letaba instead of going through the rigmarole of unhooking the trailer and going for a drive. We find the game viewing in that area is really poor and the Mopane was particularly thick too.

Just outside the fence, a relaxed Waterbuck.

A Grasshopper in the road.

This little guy had found a hidey-hole in the hut's door jamb.

On the way to Mopane Camp to check into Tsendze we found a small pod of Hippos with a youngster

and a Chameleon strutting across the road.

At Mopane, I spied this splendid grasshopper in the garden bed near the pond.

Then, after a pretty good breakfast on the balcony overlooking the dam, we went on the Great Trek........
