My problem with legalizing the trade is that there are not sufficient stocks to take care of the demand and that poaching will continue if not increase

Alas, legal trade will not help, there is insufficient rhino horn in stockpiles or on the few surviving animals to supply demand and poaching would continue in order to supply the demand.
What is a few hundred tons of rhino horn to the millions & millions of oriental people demanding the stuff.

SanParks and KZN Parks must have built up appreciable stocks over the decades...remember all horns found on natural carcasses are removed!
Also stocks in police stores...
I just wish somebody is keeping tabs on all the above!!!

Maybe so RP, but the demand comes from umpteen million orientals. Stocks will go nowhere to satisfy this demand

And growing wealth in Asia is driving the demand

One should be careful to generalise...I have it on good account that the rhino horn fable is regarded as nonsense by many "orientals"...
But still...point taken!

Of course!!! Generalising is always wrong, but often inevitable.......to keep a message short. Only the most ignorant part of the populations believe in this kind of nonsense, but being a very numerous population also the ignorant are a lot
The ones to get hold of are the traders, the ones earning on this disgraceful "merchandice", but how??
