The road was indeed a nice drive, however, got after that little waterhole quiet again and we meanwhile reached again the tar road where we noticed kudus in the riverbed
and a couple of hyenas out of which this one was not in the mood to follow the others in the thick bush
but stayed simply on the tar road.
We skipped the first view point along that road earlier that morning so now we had time to stop there and were lucky that it was allowed to leave the vehicle there. The view from there was more than lovely. The lions from earlier where no longer to be seen so we turned into the S36 but also that road was a bit too quiet but we noticed some kudu ladies and a smaller elephant bull.
and funnily that road is at least for us always a guarantor for sandgrouses and so it was today
and we again detected a couple.
Unfortunately that was it on that road but we already noticed during the day we arrived at Satara that the S126 was open as that road was strangely closed last year the whole time we stayed in that area whereas all others were open so we turned into that one and luckily could notice a steenbock in the high grass
and along a new loop which we noticed never before and maybe that was the reason why that road was closed last year due to road works which was leading around a huge rock that little squirrel entertained us quite nicely.
Only at Welverdiend waterhole we then stopped for a nice break and there lots of Egyptian goose where hanging around with many impalas
mostly males.
It was a bit overcast nearly the whole day so the temperatures were indeed more than bearable and now finally our beloved birds were again willing to show up – We noticed a tawny flanked prinia,
a perfectly posing melba finch
