Typical!
Common sense is enough to understand that jackals cannot kill that many springboks. They are not wild dogs and do not live in packs
I wonder why it has taken so many years to come out in the open
Scandalous!! I do hope that the persons who have made these decisions have been dismissed

On the other hand , jackals and caracals is a huge problem in the Karoo causing very large stock losses to farmers

Culling in SANParks
Unlike Ezemvelo, which allows hunting and cull-hunting in some of the KZN reserves, SANParks prefers "culling" to remove game. Hell would break loose if anyone was allowed to hunt in a National Park, but the culling is not very different from hunting, it's not done by wildlife managers but a tender is issued for the cull of game. The culling provider has to pay per kg of hunted game and has to shoot a certain number of animals, but no specific animals may be selected - so it's not trophy hunting, but still hunting for cash and the meat is not given to local communities which would be a good idea to create some enthusiasm about a Protected Area.
I am also struggling to understand why these small parks don't introduce some more predators to maintain the ecological balance. Maybe the predators would also earn some cash when the small parks attract more visitors
Why are some animals captured and sold alive (which raises more money than culling) and some are culled They have sold all kind of antelope, zebra, giraffe on game auctions, why don't they sell these ones?
Here the figures for the 2019 culls

Klippies, one need look no further than the single word "tender".
It is money for nothing and tenders are notoriously corrupt in this country.

I am still wondering why they decide to sell sometimes and sometimes will cull

Re: Culling in SANParks
Where have you found that document, Klipspringer? Certainly not on the Sanparks website!
I was absolutely in the dark what culling by Sanparks is concerned
Stupid naive I thought that rangers did the culling and the meat went to the communities
They are giving tenders regularly in all the parks it seems; numerous ones and many animals
Thank you for waking me up, Klippie! Normally I am not such a dude
