Astoundingly lucky, SN! ^Q^ ^Q^ ^Q^

Unique, that jackal/warthog story..

Would be nice to forward if you put it up under "interesting behaviour"! ;-)

(When the "iden" is important in a word... lol )

24th August 2015 - Day 3: Lower Sabie

After breakfast we settled down at Keartland and took in the sights again. Because this is a place where you can sit all day, we were going to make the most of it.

There were Ellies in from of the Lower Sabie deck

Image

And plenty of Hippos and Crocs

Image

And some Buffalo joined the Ellies

Image

We spent the morning and most of the early afternoon relaxing and watching the game coming down to drink

Image

Image

As we had done a short morning drive, we agreed to leave early and drive up the H4-1 to Skukuza for the afternoon drive, first up were a breeding herd of Ellies with this small baby

Image

There was all the usual general game along the way, then at N’watimhiri dam we found more lions resting in the shade.

Image

Image

This lioness was just far too relaxed up against the tree

Image

We stopped at Skukuza to show Kelly the Museum, and then headed back down to Lower Sabie on the H1-2 towards the H12 high water bridge, as we crossed the Mutlumuvi Bridge we spotted these two lying at the water’s edge along the Sand River

And another Ellie roadblock.

24th August 2015 - Day 3: Lower Sabie

Just before the N’watimhiri Causeway we found our first Wild Dogs of the trip, they were resting just off the H4-1 and it was about 16h45, so we stayed with them to see their evening greeting ritual. 0()

We stayed as long as we could and although some were up and starting the greeting

Image

Image

Image

Others were not in the mood to get moving yet. Time was running out, so we left them and hurried back to Lower Sabie.

Image

A quick stop at N’watimhiri dam to see if the lions had moved, and yes they had moved about 5 metres but were still sleeping

Image

Image

A last shot of some Buffalo before reaching camp. We had not seen any Leopard today but the 5 lion sightings and Wild Dog has definitely made up for it.
